Elusive Snow Leopard Trek (Ladakh)

White Ghost of the Himalayas

Epic hunt for Endangered ‘Elusive Snow Leopard’ (also known as the big cats or the white ghost of the Himalayas) in Ladakh. This snow leaopard trail is challenging because of the temperatures that one has to face and proper acclimatization is a must for this trek.

Snow Leopard exhibits superb camouflage, often referred to as the Grey Ghost of the Himalayas, because of its whitish-grey color (tinged with yellow) and with dark grey rosettes and spots.
These big cats are found above 3000m so you can be rest assured that you will go through extreme temperatures with stunning Himalayan alpine & non-alpine zones.

Homestay option for Day5 & Day 06: Homestay hosts have been trained in hospitality and are members of a community conservation effort to conserve the endangered snow leopard. Learn about their livestock herding practices and try your hand at winter pastimes (spinning, weaving, and turning a tale). Spend the days tracking the snow leopard and other wildlife, and overnight in a homestay or camp.

Big Cat INFO: Snow Leopards are most active at dawn and dusk and show a strong preference for cliffy habitat with moderately to very broken terrain, rocky outcrops and ravines. They are opportunistic predators and are known to take prey up to three times their own weight, though a large part of their diet comprises of small prey like marmots, pika, hare, birds and domestic livestock.
