BOOM FOR SIKKIM
The much awaited route from Sikkim for Masarovar-Kailash(China) will be open to tourists from 2015.
Tourists will have to reach Bagdogra(airport) or New Jalpaiguri(Railway Station) and from there they will have to reach Gangtok(Sikkim). It takes 3.5 hours to reach Gangtok from the airport/railway station.
Gangtok will be a stopover for them as the yatris will have to go to Nathu La which happens to be the Indo-China border. To reach Nathu La you need a permit which is easily available if the weather is good.
The new route for Mansarovar starts from Nathu La which was not open for the yatris or tourists earlier. It takes four hours to reach Nathu La from Gangtok and 4-5 days to reach Mansarovar via Nathu La. The route is motor-able and a much awaited relief for the yatris or Shiva followers who used to trek for a month to reach Mansarovar that too only if they were physically fit from Uttrakhand.
Though this new route will certainly be boom for Sikkim but it has turned into a sad news for the traders of uttrakhand and it will certainly affect the tourism there.
Feel free to ask questions if you need more info on the new route:
